Emails from potential buyers will come to your mailbox like any other email, where you can reply. Make sure you check your junk/spam folder too, just in case.
We use a protected email system to keep you safe. We'll hide both your email and the buyer's email.
The email address you'll see will look like user-X-X@vehicle-enquiry.autotrader.co.uk. The 'x' will be replaced with a unique reference so we know where to send the message.
To make sure your emails are sent successfully, please make sure:
- You're responding from the same email address that the enquiry was sent to. Make sure you don't use an alias or forwarding email address as the contact email on your advert.
- The content of your email doesn't include any personal details. For example, bank details or phone numbers.
- You're not sending pictures, add these to your advert instead
- You or the buyer aren't using any abusive language
The protected email address will last for 30 days after your advert has expired.
Good to know: If you've been chatting to the potential buyer via email for a while, you might get an error saying 'the size limit has been exceeded'.
When you reply, the full thread of the conversation is included, and it grows with each message sent.
If you get this error, when you reply, delete some of the thread from your reply. This will reduce the message size and let you send the email.
