Updating the deal status is designed to show the deal's outcome. You should update the deal status appropriately in your systems' lifecycle.
Updating the deal status will only have additional onward action where the linked stock record has been reserved with the same reservationDealId. You'll be able to see this via:
- Deals API and the deal's reservationStatus is set
- Stock API and the stock record's reservationDealId
