What do I need to do when I sell my used car?

When you sell a used car, make sure you do the following:

• Tell the DVLA (Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency) that you no longer own the car
  • Find out how to tell the DVLA you've sold your car
• Tear off the section at the bottom of V5C (registration document) and send it to DVLA
• If there’s any outstanding warranty on the car, you'll also need to let the company know that you have sold the car
• Tell your insurers that you no longer own the car
• Give the top part to the buyer and any other relevant paperwork you have. This should include MOT (Ministry of Transport) certificates, logbook and receipts etc.
